Objective: Learn how to bulk upload component specs using Duro's import from file feature.
Difficulty: Easy
In this article:
How do I upload specs with the import tool? How do I bulk upload this information?
These two questions are intertwined and are best understood when explained together. When you add a component using the Create Manually feature on the Components page of Duro, you're prompted to input specific data concerning the component being added, such as trade number, material, length, width, pitch, number of teeth (for belts), color, construction, etc., depending on the type of component.
However, when you add a component using the Import from File feature on the Components page of Duro, you are not prompted to input that information. Instead, you upload a template that is translated within the system to answer those questions.
To bulk upload specs for a component in the Import from File feature and have all the information showing correctly, follow the below steps:
- Log into your Duro account and begin by clicking on Components.
- Select Import from File.
- A window titled Import Components from a File will appear. Scroll down to the Need a Template section.
- Download the Creating new Components template. Open the template once it downloads.
- Insert a new column anywhere in the Sources section of the spreadsheet. Title that column Specs.
- Insert your specs for each component into the Spec column. (See the Specs section below for more information on how to do this).
- Save your spreadsheet and upload your template to the import module.
- Review your labels and ensure they match.
- Click Continue to import your data.
For more information on importing from a file, please refer to our article Import from File (Bulk Importing). Additionally, please refer to Importing Spreadsheets - Advanced for a complete explanation of column mapping and required submission fields.
Spec information
The specs you upload to Duro will vary depending on the category under which your component is grouped. Furthermore, each kind of component has specific criteria that must be listed when updating your component library.
After adding a new column for specs in the Creating new Components template, as detailed in the above section, you'll enter your specs into the spreadsheet. Add spec information in the following format:
MATERIAL: , WIDTH: , LENGTH: , HEIGHT:
The Categories article can be used as your cheat sheet to find what specs are required for your components by category. Locate the spec fields needed for your components, then copy and paste that data into the spec column. Add the required criteria into the space between the colon and the comma. Here's an example of what that should look like:
MATERIAL: Wood, WIDTH: 4 inches, LENGTH: 9 inches, HEIGHT: 2 inches
