This article introduces mid-state promotions and highlights their role in displaying current and pending lifecycle statuses and revision values. By understanding these features, users can better navigate product transitions and maintain accurate records throughout the lifecycle.
Mid-State Promotions: Lifecycle Values
Mid-state promotions in lifecycle statuses provide greater transparency and control during the transition of products and components through various stages of the product lifecycle. When an item is promoted from one status to another (e.g., Design → Prototype, Prototype → Production, Production → Obsolete), it enters a mid-state where the promotion has been initiated but not yet finalized. This mid-state is reflected in the user interface, where the current and target statuses are both visible in a split status label format. Once the item is submitted and approved in a change order, the split status will change to just the target lifecycle status.
Mid-State Promotions: Revision Values
Mid-state promotions for revision values function the same as lifecycle values by displaying both the current and intended revision values when transitioning to a new status value.
For instance, if a component moves from Prototype to Production, the revision might be shown as “1🔺 → A.” This mid-state visibility ensures that users can see the current and pending revisions, allowing for accurate control over revision history and preventing errors during the transition. The visibility of mid-state revisions is crucial for maintaining documentation accuracy throughout the product's lifecycle.
The new mid-state status pillboxes will be available across the application wherever status and revision values appear. This includes all product and component tables and tiles.
