Objective: To start your journey with Duro by creating a library with components by creating manually.
Difficulty: Easy
In this article:
When it comes to integrating a component into your Duro account, you have three available methods: importing from a file, importing from a vendor, or creating one manually. This article focuses on the step-by-step process of manually creating a component within the Duro platform. By delving into the details, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the necessary steps and procedures involved in crafting a component from scratch.
How to use the Create Manually feature
Please follow the below instructions for creating a component manually in Duro:
- Log into your Duro account.
- In the left navigation, select Components.
- Select Create Manually. A window titled Create Component will populate.
- In the Category & Specs section, choose a component type. Your options are the following: Mechanical, Electrical, Assembly, Software, and Document.
- Choose a category type from the drop-down menu. Each category coordinates with the component type previously chosen (i.e., each component has a variety of categories within). Once you select a category, a CPN prefix will be generated.
- Depending on which category you select, you will be asked to provide further details on your component (e.g., dimensions, sizing, material, file format, author, conductors, mounting type, pitch, output, voltage, etc.). Enter all requested information.
- Immediately below this, in the Component Details section, enter a name for the component.
- Select a Status: DESIGN, PROTOTYPE, PRODUCTION, or OBSOLETE.
- Enter a revision number, EID, and description of the component.
- In the Attachments category, upload all thumbnails or documents pertinent to the component's history and/or development.
- Select Create.

Auto-naming feature
As you created your component manually, you may have noticed the auto-naming feature built within the module. The feature tracks your entries, automatically copying data you input regarding component details (such as capacitance, voltage, or tolerance) and pasting it into the name box of your component. Auto-naming saves you time and provides each of your components with a unique name comprised of component specifications.
Please note that the Auto-naming feature does not guarantee the generation of unique component names. Additional editing may be necessary after creation to ensure distinct names.
