Objective: To start your journey with Duro by creating a library with components by importing from a vendor.
Difficulty: Easy
In this article:
To integrate a component into your Duro account, you have three options: importing from a file, importing from a vendor, or creating one manually. This article focuses on importing components from third-party vendor applications such as Arrow, DigiKey, Mouser, and more. Here we provide step-by-step instructions to import components into your Duro account.
How to import from vendor
Duro's power really shines with our direct vendor import feature. Duro pulls in all available datasheets, part specs, thumbnails, distributor part numbers, price breaks, and lead times from the most popular part distributors. Please follow the instructions below to use the Import from Vendor feature for creating components:
- Log into your Duro account.
- In the left navigation, select Components.
- Select Import from Vendor. A window titled Import Components from Vendor will populate.
- In the Import Details section, select a type of component. Currently, no integration is available for a mechanical component.
- Choose a category type from the drop-down menu. Each category coordinates with the component type previously chosen (i.e., each component has a variety of categories within). Once you select a category, a Customer Part Number (CPN) prefix will be generated.
- Enter the Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) of the component. If the MPN value is incomplete or not found, an error message will be displayed and prevent you from proceeding until the issue is resolved. Likewise, if there is already a component in your library with the same MPN in its Sources table, Duro will highlight this and prevent you from creating a duplicate component. A link to the original component in your library will be presented so you can reference it.
- Select Create. The new component, which contains all the data pulled from vendors' online catalogs, will be presented in edit mode. You can review the data and make any necessary updates before saving and adding the component to your library.
- When you are done editing your component, click on Save.
Note 1: to create several components in rapid succession, simply check the Add Another checkbox before clicking the Create button.
Note 2: MPNs are assigned by the manufacturer whereas Distributor Part Numbers (DPNs) are assigned by the company that distributes these components to the customers. Every component will have multiple sets of part numbers and Duro tracks these with development.

Please note that at this time, Duro exclusively supports items sourced through the Octopart API. Nevertheless, we are actively developing a Duro vendor integration service to broaden this capability to numerous vendors and websites. The existing roster of vendors supported through Octopart includes the following:
- Arrow
- Avnet
- Digi-Key
- Farnell
- Future
- Mouser
- Newark
