Objective: To provide users with use cases and supplemental information regarding External IDs (EIDs).
Difficulty: Easy
In this article:
External IDs (EIDs) play a useful role in facilitating seamless integration and preserving historical data. These unique identifiers also allow organizations to maintain continuity in their workflows. This article explains how the EID field is used and how to edit this field in Duro.
How it’s used
Using an EID in addition to a Customer Part Number (CPN) offers several key advantages. EIDs act as a bridge between pre-existing part numbers and codes from third-party applications and Duro, ensuring a smooth transition between disparate systems and the preservation of legacy data.
While the EID is an optional field in Duro, EIDs can serve as links to CAD products and components, enhancing traceability. Since EIDs must be unique within the Duro, the EID can aid in preventing data conflicts across all records.
Many Duronauts opt to employ the EID field as their go-to identifier for products and components predating Duro, whether they were previously managed in spreadsheets or another PLM system. The EID field plays a supplemental role in enabling users to transfer comprehensive data into Duro, serving to safeguard against potential information loss or data gaps.
