Objective: To instruct Duro users on using various PDM One features.
Difficulty: Easy
In this article:
PDM One provides a streamlined, secure, and fast solution for protecting your CAD files, allowing teams to collaborate efficiently and maintain control over projects from any location. With essential features like check-in/check-out and file locking, PDM One eliminates unnecessary complexity and ensures that your work in NX or SolidWorks remains protected without the need to leave your CAD application. Designed to meet the demands of distributed hardware organizations, PDM One avoids the complications of traditional PDM systems while keeping you focused on your design work.
Features
To set up PDM One, view the Installation Guide.
Check-in/Check-out
When you enter the CAD application, all files not explicitly checked out are locked. This ensures all users adhere to PDM best practices; in order to edit those files, you have to check them out. PDM One integrates with NX and SolidWorks CAD applications, enabling users to check out files for editing directly within their existing workflows. This feature protects files from being unintentionally overwritten and improves collaboration by clearly indicating who is currently working on a specific file. Once the editing is complete, the file can be checked back in, making it available for other team members to continue their work.
File Locking
To safeguard ongoing work, PDM One enforces file locking and unlocking features. These are particularly important in collaborative environments where multiple users may need access to the same files. All files are locked in Duro’s PDM One until they are explicitly checked out by a user.
When you check out a file, it becomes actively locked on your cloud service provider. For instance, when using PDM One with a Box account, it locks it in Box and retains read-only privileges for all other CAD users. The file can still be downloaded from Box; however, it cannot be modified unless checked-in or an admin overrides this setting.
Admin Overwrite
Administrators have the capability to enforce a check-in at any time, ensuring that files can be made available for editing as needed. This feature is useful when a file has been inadvertently left checked out, helping to maintain smooth project workflows.
Cloud Integration and Security
Cloud-Native Syncing
PDM One leverages Dropbox, Google Drive, or Box to host your CAD files. To set it up, you require a subscription with those. Duro gives you the choice of which application to use. This cloud-based approach enhances productivity and data accessibility, allowing teams to work efficiently regardless of their location.
ITAR Compliance with Box
Customers leveraging PDM One with Box benefit from built-in ITAR compliance. Security is a fundamental feature of PDM One, and Box provides ITAR-compliant cloud storage to safeguard intellectual property.
