Objective: To learn how to link and unlink third-party components.
Difficulty: Easy
In this article, you will find:
Duronauts require the ability to link and unlink components from third-party applications, including with vendors such as Altium, SolidWorks, and Onshape. This article will show you exactly how that can be accomplished and offers step-by-step instructions on executing this process, ensuring you maintain control over your designs and collaborations.
Linking third-party components
Linking a component from a third-party vendor to Duro is accomplished by pulling a part number from the vendor into Duro. This establishes the initial connection and is a prerequisite for unlinking a component if the need to do so should arise.
Linking is specific to the vendor from which it is pulled (e.g., Altium, SolidWorks, and Onshape). Please refer to our vendor-specific documentation for pulling parts from each:
- Onshape: Feature Overview: Data Sync (via Pull Part Number)
- Altium: Starting the Component Sync
- SolidWorks: Creating components in Duro from SolidWorks CAD
Unlinking third-party components
You might unlink a component from a third-party integration within Duro for several reasons, including changes in vendors or design ownership to prevent component redundancy or obsolescence. Please consider potential impacts on your workflows and identify replacement components as needed before unlinking to avoid disruptions.
The method for unlinking third-party components (such as Altium, SolidWorks, or Onshape) is the same between all platforms.
- Log into your Duro account and begin by clicking on Components.
- Select the component in question.
- Above the name of the component at the top of your screen, you will see the highlighted third party that your component is currently linked to. If you hover your mouse over this button, you will see the prompt "Unlink Component from 3rd party application."
- Click the component button to unlink the component from its original source. A new window titled "Component created from [coordinating 3rd party]" will appear.
- Select Unlink to confirm the action.
